"To wait for illness to develop; Before remedying it
Is to wait until one is thirsty; Before digging the well.
Is this not too late"

Introduction:
Zhen Jiu - Acupuncture is an ancient system of healing developed over thousands of years in China, Japan and other eastern countries. It has evolved into a system of medicine that restores energy balance and maintains health by the insertion of fine sterile needles into acupuncture points just beneath the body surface. There are 365 commonly used points on the body and over 2000 in total.

These points are in very specific locations and lie on channels of energy. Here in the west, acupuncture has often been misleadingly publicised as only being helpful for specific conditions, such as the relief of pain. In fact, it is extremely effective in a wide variety of conditions through its power to stimulate the mind and body's own healing response.

It is considered that the "main complaint is simply something that the patient is complaining about"; the skill of the acupuncturist is to look at the entire being and treat the whole. Instead of asking "What kind of symptoms does this person have?" The traditional acupuncturist asks, "What kind of person has these symptoms, and why?".

Acupuncture aims to correct imbalances and bring the body, mind and emotions back to harmony, just as conventional medicine also aims to bring the body back to a state of healthy homeostasis. Diagnosis and treatment within Chinese Medicine is a highly skilled art, as each of the imbalances usually represents a very complex pattern of overlapping and inter-related disharmonies.

It looks at the human body through an Eastern paradigm, where bodily processes are powered and maintained by the flow of Qi - energy. Disturbances in this flow generate illness. Acupuncture points are sited in key locations for influencing the flow of Qi, and are used to restore a smooth flow. Contrary to some people's belief, acupuncture is not a painful treatment. I use modern sterile, disposable needles which are extremely fine gauge and achieve an energy sensation rather than discomfort. Treatment is performed conforming to the highest standards of sterile procedures approved by the Department of Health.

I practice an integrated style of acupuncture, using a combination of the Five Elements, Six Divisions, Eight Guiding Principles and TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) approaches.

As an inter-related approach, TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) helps take more of a snap-shot of your health. It allows your seemingly diverse symptoms to be grouped into ‘Patterns’ of common imbalances. Though however complex these symptoms are, 'no symptom is there for the same reason in each person and thus you can not use a formula to change it'.
